About Tabletop Oahu: The Convention

Tabletop Oahu: The Convention is a 2-day convention in Honolulu, Hawai’i that strives to create a safe space in Hawai’i to celebrate all facets and uses of Tabletop Gaming to grow the community, embrace neurodiversity and mental health uses of gaming, and create opportunities and connections to the global tabletop gaming industry!

About Our Team

Tabletop Oahu: The Convention is brought to you by a trio of friends who love tabletop games, conventions, and community. The three of us met while volunteering at conventions and connected over our shared passion for organizing events. We also noticed a need for an independent tabletop gaming event that can foster a safe and welcoming environment for the diverse gamers in our community. Our hope is to create an event that is safe, fun, and welcoming for gamers of all backgrounds and orientations.

We are supremely grateful to everyone who has shown us their support by giving us time, product, and, most important – funds. In this harsh world, movers and shakers need cold hard cash to, well, move and shake anything. We are funding this event on a gamble. We believe in our heart of hearts that tabletop games, conventions, and community will love us back and reward our efforts with enough funds not just to break even but to come back next year bigger and better than before.

Van Fujishige

Gaming Director

Van@tabletopoahu.com

Van (he/him) is a long-time game hobbyist and convention organizer, with nearly ten years of experience volunteering as Director for the Tabletop Departments of local conventions Kawaii Kon and Comic Con Honolulu. His love for gaming is all-encompassing and includes not just board games but also role-playing games, video games, live-action role playing games, CCGs, and miniatures.

He has been an integral part of the local game demonstration teams for several publishers and enjoys teaching games to new and experienced gamers. Van was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, and has combined his industry knowledge, board game expertise, and connection to the local community to design a tabletop gaming event catering to the unique needs and sensibilities of the diverse gamers in Hawaii.

A truly astounding proportion of the library comes from his personal collection (and his contributions barely made a dent in the number of games he owns).

“My favorite game is… Carson City. It was one of my first and favorite forays into worker placement, with a theme I love. Or, wait, maybe Pursuit of Happiness. Or maybe…”

Meg (she/her) moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, almost ten years ago and was immediately welcomed into the tabletop gaming scene by the local community. She developed her skills at coordinating events and managing people through her work as a Social Worker in the nonprofit sector and as a volunteer for the Tabletop Departments at Kawaii Kon and Comic Con Honolulu, where she eventually became an Assistant Director in charge of coordinating Role-Playing Games, Paint & Take, and Miniature Gaming.

Meg now brings seven years of experience as an Assistant Director for Tabletop Gaming Department at multiple conventions and over ten years as a Social Worker to her role as a Director for Tabletop Oahu: The Convention. Meg is passionate about social justice, human rights, and equality – a passion that she brings with her into every venture.

“One of my favorite games is Dominant Species. I love the direct conflict and intense tension that comes into play as everyone plays out their programming for the round.”

Mr. Nikki

Registration Director & Artisté

Mr. Nikki (she/they/any) is certainly a human person. The Mr. Nikki is an anti-social introverted cryptid. They do the art you see. You might find them at the con; hiding away, eating a onigiri and crying over their favorite waifu or husbando.

When they aren’t at the con, she lives as a OL(Office Lady) who role plays a tradwife because baking bread is fun af. The breads range from good to abominations that she’ll insist are still edible, slowly eating it to ensnare another to try a slice.

How they managed to end up playing board games with mankind is a great mystery. More studies need to be made.

They love mangos and can lick their elbow.
