How it works
To borrow one of our games, you’ll just need your ID and your Badge Number! Pick out the game you’re interested in from our shelves and bring it to the check out desk, and one of our librarians will scan the game and weigh it, enter your badge number, and take your ID for collateral. You’re free to use one of our open gaming tables to play the game. Once you’re done, pack up the game (including instructions and all the pieces), and return it to the librarian – from there you can get your ID back or check out another game and do it again!
Each game has a colored dot on the spine to indicate its complexity. Green indicates that a game is good for beginners – it’s easy and/or quick to learn. Yellow indicates a medium complexity game, and red indicates the most complex games that may take a quite a bit of reading or a youtube video to fully grasp. Additionally, you can find blue stickers (two player games), and some stickers will have a green K in the colored sticker, indicating that a game was crowdfunded.
Rules for Tabletop Oahu’s Game Library
- Upon game check out, library staff will take your ID as collateral. Please remember to return your game at the end of the day to receive your ID back.
- Please only check out one game per group so games aren’t sitting unplayed
- Respect the games!
- Do not riffle shuffle cards
- Do not bend rule books backwards
- Put games back the way you found them
- Treat game pieces with respect. Do not put pieces anywhere other than on the table, on the game board, back in the box, or in spaces as described by the game rules.
- Make sure all pieces are in the game before returning to the library
- Be a gracious loser – we’re all adults, no pouting or rage quitting
- Be a gracious winner – keep gloating to a fair minimum
- Follow the rules
- Don’t give advice unless asked.
- Make use of the “looking for teacher” and “looking for players” flags when needed.
- Feel free to ask for help if you’re lost, confused, or have a disagreement about rules.
- Be mindful of other players – the less room you take up, the more gamers can be accommodated!
- Have fun!
