Paint & Take

Do you love painting minis? Check out our Paint & Take event!

During the convention weekend, we’ll have two tables setup with paints, brushes, paper towels and everything you need to make your miniature paintings into masterpieces. Even better? You don’t even need to bring a mini – you can select one for free and take it with you when you go! We also have a couple of local experts on hand to help you get those fine details just right and guide you in new techniques.

After you finish painting your mini, you can enter it into our Paint & Take Competition! Scroll down for more information!

Signing Up

Paint and Take will be running for most of the day on Saturday and Sunday with seats opening as people finish up their paint jobs. On the Tabletop.Events schedule, we’ll have one block for each day. Even if you don’t get a “seat” on the webschedule, you can still come by during the day and grab a seat when it opens up!

Paint & Take Contest

After you finish painting your miniature, you can enter it into our paint & take competition!

Below are the rules that all participants must follow in order to be eligible for the painting competition.

  1. The model must be entirely painted at the Paint and Take event, but may be painted over the duration of the entire convention, until the deadline for submission.
  2. The model may be provided at the event, purchased at the convention, or brought with the participant.
  3. Personal tools, paints, and other materials may be used, but cannot be prepared beforehand (3d printed pieces may be used, but cant be primed, painted, etc. before the event).
  4. Miniatures must be submitted by 12:00 pm on Sunday.

Judging Criteria

Judging will be entirely at the discretion of the teaching staff, with winners being selected using the criteria below:

  • Coverage: The first part of grading will be checking to ensure there is no exposed plastic. Models should painted in their entirety, including bases that they come with, unless clearly designed to be left unpainted (flight stands).
  • Technique: The model uses a variety of techniques to achieve desired effects. Examples of techniques are layering, blending, edge highlighting, dry brushing, shading, etc.
  • Degree of Difficulty: The overall complexity of the miniature being painted. The size, number of details and different textures on the model.
  • Overall aesthetic: Did the miniature have a cohesive look or achieve the desired effect? As determined by the judges.

Prizes

Winners will be awarded prizes based on the available pool. Announcement of the winner will be at 2:00PM on Sunday. Winners may have a proxy accept any prizes they win, but someone must be there in person to accept.
